The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has announced the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2025 on its official website, jeeadv.ac.in. Both Indian and foreign nationals aspiring to take the JEE Advanced exam must review these guidelines for full clarity. Key requirements include performance in JEE Mains, age limits, number of attempts, Class 12 appearance, and previous IIT admissions.
JEE Advanced 2025 Key Changes:
Candidates now have three attempts for JEE Advanced, up from two previously.
JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility Criteria
Criterion | Description |
Criterion 1: Performance in JEE Mains 2025 | Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 in the B.E./B.Tech. JEE Mains 2025 Paper I, with a category-wise quota as follows: 10% GEN-EWS, 27% OBC-NCL, 15% SC, 7.5% ST, and 40.5% Open. Additionally, a 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates in each category. |
Criterion A2: Age Limit | Candidates should be born on or after October 1, 2000. For SC, ST, and PwD, the date extends to October 1, 1995. |
Criterion A3: Number of Attempts | Maximum of three consecutive attempts allowed for JEE Advanced. |
Criterion A4: Appearance in Class XII Exam | Candidates must have first appeared in Class XII with PCM in 2023, 2024, or 2025. Those who appeared before 2023 are not eligible. Candidates with board results for 2021-22 declared after September 21, 2022, may also apply if other criteria are met. |
Criterion A5: Previous Admission at IITs | Candidates with prior IIT admissions, including those who accepted seats online or at reporting centers, are generally ineligible. However, those admitted to IIT preparatory courses for the first time in 2024 or withdrew from IIT seats before the final JoSAA round are eligible. |

Special Note for OCI/PIO Candidates:
As per the Supreme Court ruling on February 3, 2023, OCI/PIO candidates with cards issued before March 4, 2021, will be considered Indian nationals but are only eligible for Open-PwD reservations, if applicable.
